Factors that Fueld Student Performance
I’'ll start the overview of this project by saying, this one was a bit over my head. In projects it is under ‘intermediate’ when considering SQL skill. However, it went over some other things I haven’t learned yet in other courses. I had about 1-2 more courses to go through before being 100% ready for this project. With that said, it gave me a view into future courses. Specifically CASE clauses and the window function RANK ( ).
Questions to answer:
Do more study hours and extracurricular activities lead to better scores?
Is there a sweet spot for study hours?
Give students their class rank without revealing exam scores.
Findings:
Quick answer: yes. More study hours + extracurricular leads to higher exam scores. Running the data where extracurriculars equals ‘No’, the average exam score is anywhere from 2-7 points lower than when someone does participate in extracurriculars. (1st and 2nd photos below)
Not exactly. The ‘sweet spot’ is 16+ hours of studying showing the direct correlation between hours studied and higher exam scores. On average the more hours studied, the higher the score.
